After weeks of speculation, Oscarcast director Glenn Weiss has today declared that Lady Gaga will not be performing his nominee for best song “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick at the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday.
The singer told producers that she plans to come to the ceremony as a nominee, but she won’t have time to prepare a musical number as she is filming Warner Bros.’ DC sequel. Joker: Madness for Two with Joaquin Phoenix.
The other four tracks for the Oscar for Best Original Song – “Applause” (from say it like a woman), “Lift me up” (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), “Naatu Naatu” (RRR) and “It’s a life” (Everything everywhere all at once) — will be played during the show.

In an interview this week with Deadline awards columnist Pete Hammond, Oscarcast producer Ricky Kirshner said of Gaga possibly starring on the show: “We’ve announced some of the performances, and there’s more announcements to come. So I will say that the ones we announced, very creatively, took to make their song very performance-based and very visual. Of course, as you can imagine, Everything everywhere all at once. Very visual. David Byrne (who co-wrote and performed that movie’s song “This Is a Life”) had a lot to say about what it would sound like, so that’s gonna be cool. So we are delighted with all the performance we have.

Lady Gaga has already performed twice at the Oscars, for Diane Warren’s collaboration “Til It Happens to You” from the doc The hunting ground in 2016 and for “Shallow” by A star is bornwho won the Oscar in 2019. She was also featured in a tribute at the 2015 Oscars to The sound of music and appeared last year helping Liza Minelli present the Best Picture award to CODA.

Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the 95th Annual Academy Awards, which will be presented on Sunday, March 12 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. ABC airs the show live coast-to-coast at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT and in more than 200 countries around the world.
