A communication expert has revealed the three phrases you can say when you don’t know the answer to a question that will make you sound “confident”.
Conversation specialist Raele Altano, from New York, frequently shares her tips and tricks for communicating better with her more than 199,000 TikTok followers.
The trainer gained viral fame teaching viewers on the video-sharing platform how to “socialize and articulate with kindness”.
More recently, Raele detailed the three sentences you should say instead of “I don’t know” that will always make you sound “like you know what you’re talking about.”
The communications expert began the video by explaining that she understood the feeling of being in a situation and having to say that you don’t know the answer to a question.
“So you know when you’re in a position where you don’t know the answer to something, but you don’t want to directly say ‘I don’t know,'” Raele said.
She added that she “totally gets” that feeling before letting her followers know there are great alternatives.
“Luckily, there’s a great alternative that will always make you sound confident and like you know what you’re talking about,” the conversation specialist explained.
“Here’s what to say when you don’t know the answer to something,” Raele said before revealing her top three phrases.
For the first sentence, Raele offered a way to acknowledge that you are unsure of the answer and include a solution.
“That’s a great question…let me dig into that and I’ll get back to you,” she said.
Coming in at #2, the communication coach advised you to say, “Let me get more information on this.” I want to make sure I give you the best answer possible.
The second sentence gives you time to consider the question while assuring the person who asked it that you have addressed it.
Finally, Raele told viewers to say, “I’m not entirely sure, but what I do know is…”
The third answer again acknowledges that you don’t know the answer to what is being asked, but offers another solution that others may not have thought of.
The communications expert’s followers flooded the comments with words of praise as they gushed about her advice.
One person wrote: “I have to watch this before work tomorrow, it will take me far, thanks.”
Another person commented: ‘Great content! Very helpful information! Thanks.’
‘So happy to have found your page. Instant tracking!!’ said one user.
One person said, “I use them all the time.”
