Bill Murray and Rooney Mara were among a group of people who were temporarily barred from entering a crowded SAG Awards ballroom at the Fairmont Century Plaza hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday due to fire safety protocols.
Variety co-editor Ramin Setoodeh took to Twitter with a clip from inside the on-site ceremony, where he toured a crowded room filled with celebrities and other dressed for the luxury event.
“Total chaos at the SAG Awards as Claire Foy and Rooney Mara are not allowed into the ballroom at the Fairmont Hotel – they are told they must wait for the fire marshal to let them in, as well as hundreds of other guests,” Setoodeh said. .
He added: “Even Bill Murray has to wait. This is madness!’
In the clip, Murray, 72, was seen looking around the room, while Foy, 38, and Mara, 37, were seen chatting with others.
During the show, Murray was dressed in a black suit with a multicolored bow tie. The A-list actor has already been nominated for three SAG Awards: in 2016, for A Very Murray Christmas; in 2016, for group honors for The Grand Budapest Hotel; and in 2004 for Lost in Translation.
Foy donned a yellow Prada dress to the proceedings, accessorized with jewelry and carrying a clutch,
Mara was dressed in a black and white Alexander McQueen dress with her brown locks pulled back.
They were nominated along with co-stars Jessie Buckley, Kate Hallett, Judith Ivey, Sheila McCarthy, Frances McDormand, Michelle McLeod, Liv McNeil, Ben Whishaw and August Winter.
Both Foy and Mara were among the stars nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture honors, for their film Women Talking.
The cast of Everything Everywhere All At Once took home honors.
The patterns were discovered at 5 p.m. local time when the broadcast of the event began airing, Page Six reported, citing social media posts.
A number of Twitter users were unmoved by the star disturbance.
One user said: “Oh poor things. They have to wait a bit for people to do their job,” with a rolling-eyed emoji.
Another said: ‘Madness? Really? My god you had a privileged life. How dare that damn marshal follow security protocols… just to make your life more difficult.
One user suggested the organizers ‘should have booked a bigger room’ or made sure ‘they cleared it with the fire marshal first before inviting ‘too many attendees,’ adding ‘or better again, invite only the people nominated for the awards, then check the number of places afterwards and then start inviting others.
