A devastated family is desperate for answers after the sudden death of an ‘incredible’ five-year-old girl

A devastated family desperately searches for answers after their ‘incredible’ five-year-old daughter suddenly dies after catching what they thought was just a bug in her stomach.

Isabella Grace Docherty, known as Bella, 5, died suddenly just hours after falling ill and collapsing at her home in Newarthill, North Lanarkshire.

The five-year-old’s mother, Pamela Little, said the family thought ‘it was nothing to worry about’ and Bella was feeling unwell due to vomiting.

Pamela mentioned that the high-spirited girl always asks for food and even leads her family.

However, around 4 a.m., after Bella’s father, Brian, took her downstairs after she had trouble sleeping in her bed, she suddenly threw up and collapsed on the floor.

The 38-year-old mother told the Daily Record: ‘Brian yelled at me to get off. When I entered, he was holding her in his arms. I brushed her hair away from her face and my instincts told me she was gone.

“We phoned for an ambulance and did CPR, a neighbor came to help until the paramedics arrived and after that it was just a nightmare.

“I just remember seeing his face and realizing something bad had happened.

Bella died on Monday February 13 at Wishaw General Hospital despite the paramedic’s best efforts to save her life.

The previous year, doctors had discovered a non-fatal abnormality on Bella’s brainstem following an MRI.

But Brian and Pamela learned that it wouldn’t have been linked to their daughter’s death.

Pamela added: “She has a few issues with her brain, but nothing we have been told to worry about.

“Doctors said it could have been something she was born with.

“They didn’t know exactly what it was and now they may never know. She was supposed to go to the hospital last week as an inpatient for tests, but unfortunately all of a sudden she left.

Bella’s post-mortem results came back as inconclusive and the family continues to await further test results.

Pamela, who is also mother to Ellie, 13, and Leon, 15, said ‘it kills them on the inside’ without having the answers and the family world was turned upside down after the death from Bella.

Describing her youngest child, she said: “We are absolutely broken. Bella was our funny and caring little diva and now we just want the world to know how amazing she was.

A fundraising page has been created to help pay for Bella’s funeral.

Organizer Stacey Banks wrote: ‘With the permission of the family, I have created this page for anyone wishing to help the family at this devastating time.

“In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Brian and Pamela’s precious Princess Isabella was sadly taken from them suddenly at just 5 years old.

“The unbearable pain and suffering the family is going through at this time is unimaginable.

“Any donation for the celebration of the life of our beautiful Bella would be greatly appreciated.”
